SED Headquarters Destroyed!

The SED HQ was destroyed earlier this week by an opposing force fighting for domination of the bottom of SpinDizzy, and eventually the entire surface. Morticon and other SED members returned from a trip to a space colony for acquiring weapons and training only to discover their base was changed into rubble. No one was believed to be inside at the time. Due to the intensity of the blast, no items were found to be salvagable.

All of the SED's prized possesions were either destroyed or found missing upon a cursory inspections. Years of research and knowledge, artifacts acquired on many adventures or made in the lab, most of Portia's books, weaponry, advanced robotics, and various personal belongings are now lost forever. All SED members who resided in the base are now effectively homeless. It is not clear on when - or if - the SED will rebuild.

The base was located underneath N6 E2.

RP interests (RP Meeting Notes)

The RP meeting was a success. The participants (Shadowcatcher, Leowulf, Portia, Morticon, Chanspot, Slug, Natasha, Tzolkin, Pathfinder, and maybe a few others I forgot) basically agreed they were all ready for RP. All that seems to be needed is to get something organized with a theme/plot and regular time that would interest one or more of them. Here's what everyone seems to be interested in:

Chanspot enjoys highly detailed, involved RP. I suppose I'm a bit odd in that, but it's something that's developed over the last few years. I'll pick up a game like Tekumel and drool over the cover of it a while. I like sights, sounds, smells, to mean specific things.

Natasha says, "Hi. I'm not necessarily intending to roleplay as Natasha, but I do prefer RP that's fairly open-ended and not too bloody. Tra la."

Morticon says, "I'm... Morticon. I'm best known for my silly SED TPs in the garden, but I actually run and participate in a number of more serious RPs on the map (of about all genres). Many SED related, some not. I also like to do a lot of exploring. Additionally, I've fiddled here and there with 'experimental' RPs... that don't nessecarily have a plot... but are there to explore something... a concept, or a fragment of something... who knows. And of course, I'm always looking for new people to RP with and to help make more RP happen."

Portia is Portia Lee from a world called Gaea. I am a mage by trade as well. I would like all sorts of RP. Portia lilts, "I also tend to help foster others RP skills, run a number of general RPs, and likes both serious and silly, though I probably come across as a very uptight snob at times."

Andros Verde from Earth and later on Tauren Prime and is interested in scifi RPs similar to that of the Tauren Empire RP from a while back. After partially running that RP I'd like to try my hand at that sort of thing again. I can go for a wide variety of RPs though.

Chanspot also likes RPs with large, snarling werewolves with chainsaws, but hasn't gotten a DM to take me up on it yet. :(

Tzolkin softly squeaks, "I'm known as Tzolkin, I'm somewhat of an engineer/programmer, and I enjoy all sorts of roleplaying. The type I'd like to participate more in is the more serious or 'dark' type stuff, as I can already easily find the other kinds of roleplaying I like, whether here or elsewhere."

Leowulf says, "Well, you all know me as Leowulf, don't know if I'll be bringing in a different character, but I enjoy exploring, and if I can do that IC with a little RP, all the better."

Slug chirps, "I am probably more known for my eccentric characters and lighthearted RPs, but I have been involved with a variety of different ones ranging in tone. I prefer RPs to be fluid and not too bogged down with text DURING the event (novel-length character descriptions), but backstory is great. My typical RPs are usually large, one-shot events. But I am considering starting my own multi-session campaign once RL stuff settles down."

Pathfinder says, "Am Logan Pathfinder, dimension traveler. Think of Doctor Who with a anime and furry twist and you have a good ideas of what I do. Be it one day flying some mecha to going to a world to hang out with superheroes. Seen alot, done alot and looking to do something with people. I general see myself as a Hero so no asking me to do something I see as evil. Beyond that I give just about any RP a try."

Shadowcatcher smirks, "Well, my name is Shadowcatcher, and I'm a nictusune. You'll see me get involved in just about anything that intersest me, from simple mischief, helping out solving the odd puzzle, to my own acts of villany.

Other topics included RPs of past and present that people liked, and RPs that they didn't. Also dicussed were any perceived obstacles to RP and how to solve them. Ideas that came out of that were to make the RP board a global, adding a program that allowed others to add their RP groups and the members for public viewing, a more comprehensive map or list that showed 'themed areas' which could be used for RP. The SED was percieved as a clique, but it is actually open to new members (you just have to ask!). The 'rpp' command was brought up. Lots of other things were discussed that aren't covered here.

Additionally, Portia will be holding her RP class next week (watch eventlist for details!), the casino is opening soon, and another one of these meetings may be held again in the near future.

Jellicle Cat Makes Tasty Observation

Last week in the Rose Garden, Patch O'Black, local Jellicle cat, noted that there are three subjects that are sure to start an argument, "Politics, religion...." he said.

Argon, local centaur, interjected, "And how Jellicle you are?" Patch replied, "No, Argon. The third is, what to put on a pizza!"

True to his words, the group started talking about what should, and shouldn't go on a pizza. Everything from apple slices to zuchinni were tossed about. Some were stated with gusto and others with revulsion.

Luckily, several pans of pizza dough had been set out on one of the tables, and with all the ingredients being thrown out for discussion, most landed on the pans. These ended up in a pizza oven that just happened to be there, and soon everyone was enjoying delicious pizza! "Good" and "bad" ingredients, depending on your tastes, were all mixed up and combined to make pizza that no one had any complaints about. The discussion worked so well that next time the group decided to discuss soup!

Contributing a story or artwork for @Action News is easy! Just send it to newspaper@spindizzy.org, or qmail/pagemail Argon, Findra, Skyler, or Ba'ar with your article!

  • @Action News is published weekly on or after 9:00pm Pacific/SpinDizzy time on Saturdays.
  • Articles received after 8:00am Pacific time on Saturday may be published in the next edition of @Action News.
  • Most any type of story or article of interest to SpinDizzy's newspaper readers will be accepted. Generally, we'd prefer things that aren't out and out lies or flames about other folks, and have a basis in the reality of SpinDizzy.
  • Things that occur in public areas are fair game.
  • The things reported don't have to have actually happened, (any more than anything that happens here does) but make sure you don't overstep the social boundaries and rules of interaction that we have.

These are pretty broad guidelines, but we expect good sense to apply.

Thanks!
